Before you plug it, in turn, it upside down and check the heating elements for spiders, cobwebs and fluff, brush or vacuum them and any dust out. When you turn it on, open the window as there will be a burning smell as any dust settled on the elements burns off, after a few minutes the smell will go away. Read Less

- Simple, easy to use controls. 2 power switches and a thermostat.
If you're looking for a budget convector heater and don't mind a basic design or want loads of extra functions, then you just need it to be well made enough to do the job without breaking down in a week.
With a high satisfaction rate, 81% of users giving it 3 to 5 stars and 58 % of all users giving it the top 5-star rating, this one is just that.
At 2 Kw it's powerful enough to keep a 60m3 room warm, it has a thermostatic control and overheat protection, (it cuts out if it gets too hot).
On the side, there are 2 switches, 1 for 750 Watts, the second for 1250 Watts, press both and you get the full 2 kW.
Under the switches there is a variable thermostat, it's a dial with no temperature markings on it just a min and max setting. Wait until the room is at the temperature you want and turn it down until it goes off then up again until it just clicks on and it's set.
We bought one of these in early 2012 and use it in a 4X4 Metre bedroom to warm It up in the evenings and mornings, it has been used every winter since and as of December 2020, it is still working with no problems.
It does click when the thermostat turns it on and off. If you move it around a lot, every so often you will need to tighten up the screws holding the feet on.
This is an excellent heater for the price and our top-selling budget convector heater.
No extended guarantee with this one. You do have refund, replace or repair protection as described by the Consumer Rights Act 2015

- Easy use controls with the digital timer set below
UK company Dimplex is the worlds leading manufacturer of heating appliances and have been making heaters since 1973. All Dimplex heaters are BEAB approved.
This convector heater has a high satisfaction rate with 100% of users giving it 3 to 5 stars and 80% of all users giving it the top 5-star rating.
This 40 series model is a time-tested 3Kw convector robustly built with a variable thermostat and integrated booster fan.
We have 2 models featured here one has a 24hr timer, both have 2 power settings (1.9Kw and 3Kw) and anti-frost control, they have safety thermal cut-outs to prevent overheating.
Our test heater is the non-timer version, 8 years old and still working perfectly. The only fault is the same with most of these types of heaters, the screws holding the legs work loose and have to be occasionally re-tightened.
This is because the legs are designed to be detachable so the heaters can be wall mounted.
- The Dimplex can be wall mounted for use in passages and hallways
The front mounted 'Turbo boost' fan helps circulate air around the room for faster heat distribution. The fan is will be controlled by the thermostat and will switch off when the set temperature is reached.
This seemingly random automatic turning on and off of the fan is not a fault, it is the way this heater is designed to work, there is a neon indicator light on the fan switch to indicate when it is running.
The heater can be a wall mounted with the brackets provided or used free-standing as illustrated.
Dimensions: Length 73.3cm, Height 44.2cm, Depth 20cm. Weight 4.9Kg
This convector heater comes with Dimplex's own 3-year manufacturer's guarantee.

Wall mounted glass fronted convector heater

These are advertised as Panel Heaters and look like radiators but are really glass fronted convector heaters.
A hollow metal body with a heating element draws air through the bottom warming it and venting the hot air through a grill at the top, the workings are hidden behind the attractive glass panel front.
The best of this type of heater is the ADAX Clea range. already reviewed here. If your budget is between £150 and £200 for a 1kW heater (the Cleas most powerful is 1.2kW) then that is what you should be buying.
For those with a lower budget there a few decent ones available. While nowhere near the build quality of the Clea they are reasonably cheaply priced and you should expect to get at least a couple of winters use out them.
We recommend the Netta 2kW model as a decent budget buy, it is powerful enough to keep a 23m2 room warm, has 2 heat settings 1kW and 2Kw and can be used wall-mountable or freestandingDimensions :- Width 92 cm : Height 43 cm : Depth 24 cm. Weight: 7.4 KG» Read less

- The HV102 with its remote control unit
This well engineered and nicely styled heater is very popular with 91% of users giving it 3 to 5 stars and 65% of all users giving it the top 5-star rating.
- The HV 102 is fully remote controlled, HV101 has simpler controls and no remote control.
The Duronic HVis built differently to the traditional wire element convector heaters.
The elements are enclosed in an array of angled mica panels, as well as drawing air over the panels to create a convection current the perforated casing allows the heater to maximize heat output by radiating heat into the room.
It's one problem is that Duronic doesn't know what to call it! You'll find it advertised as a panel heater, radiator, radiant heater or convector heater.
It doesn't really matter how they describe it as it's a brilliant piece of kit which is well-designed, works well, heats up very quickly and has plenty of useful extras.
The HV102 has 3 power settings 1 kW, 2 KW and 2.5 kW, an adjustable thermostat and an 18-hour programmable timer. The controls are on an easy to use touchpad with a large digital display above it or use the fully functional remote control unit.
Safety features are a thermal overload cut out which turns the heater off if it overheats and an anti-tilt cut out which switches it off if it is knocked over.
For easy movement from room to room there is on board power cord storage, cool touch handles and easy roll wheels.
For your added protection Duronic gives a free extended 2-year guarantee
